Mr. Imran Zaffar has over 20 years of experience in private equity, investment banking and corporate strategy. Mr Zaffar is a nominee Director of Baltoro Growth Fund, where he is responsible for overseeing the performance of the Fund’s portfolio companies. He has served on the boards of several companies in Pakistan. Currently, he is member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan. Mr Zaffar has held executive positions in his career at Bank Alfalah, Dhabi Group, MCB Bank, Elixir Securities and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson. He has degrees in Economics and Engineering from the University of London.
Ali Saigol is a founding partner at Baltoro Capital, Pakistan’s leading private equity firm. Baltoro Capital recently launched the Baltoro Growth Fund, a Pakistan focused private equity fund with US$ 48.5 million of committed capital at first close. Baltoro seeks to capitalize on Pakistan’s burgeoning domestic consumption market and growing competitiveness in product and service export opportunities. Baltoro invests in entrepreneurial opportunities to create economic wellness for all with integrity by aligning the interests of multiple stakeholders, thus creating meaningful relationships that generate commercial value.
Prior to Baltoro Capital, Mr. Saigol was a Director of Indus Basin Holdings (IBH), Pakistan’s premier agribusiness investment company. IBH partners and investors included Tim Draper of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Thyssen family office (ThyssenKrupp) and former UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband. At IBH Mr. Saigol led the strategic planning and was responsible for origination, investment decision making and operations.
Mr. Saigol holds a BSc in Entrepreneurship and Economics from Babson College.
Mahmud has over 18 years of experience in experience in corporate finance, investment banking, principal investing, private equity and asset management across varied markets including North America, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining Baltoro, he was heading the principal investments team at Bank Alfalah and served as a member of the Investment Committee of the Bank.
His international experience includes positions at Scotia Capital, JP Morgan and Salomon Smith Barney (Citibank). He is a seasoned professional of the growth markets private equity arena, with extensive experience in the areas of strategic investment management, fundraising, deal structuring, valuation, due diligence and portfolio management. He has expertise in building / redirecting businesses and investing in agribusiness, food, health, education, power and financial sectors.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McGill University and an MBA from Yale School of Management.
Mr. Baset has over 6 years of experience working in private equity, investment banking and equity research at various firms in New York. Prior to joining Baltoro in 2017, Baset worked as a Research Associate at Morgan Stanley, where he covered Lodging stocks (both C-corps and REITs). Before that he worked on the investment team as a Financial Analyst at GF Capital, a private equity fund focused on branded consumer and media technology companies. He assisted in evaluating prospective investments, as well as providing constant support to GF Capital’s current portfolio companies. Prior to joining GF Capital, Mr. Baset worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at Barclays, where he focused on both M&A and capital markets transactions in the chemicals space.
Mr. Baset graduated with a BA in Economics from Trinity College in Connecticut in 2010. He won the prestigious British Under-19 Squash Championship in 2005 and was the two-time individual collegiate National Champion while at Trinity College, where he also served as Team Captain and was part of four National Championship-winning teams.
Moiz Alam has joined Baltoro as a senior financial analyst, and has been evaluating investments in the healthcare, energy, fashion retail and TMT space. Prior to joining Baltoro, he spent two and half years as a business analyst at Engro Corporation.
As part of Engro’s Strategy and Finance team, he looked after investment appraisals, investment re-appraisals, risk assessments, economic researches and deal structures. He handled the buy-side valuation and due diligence of a major acquisition deal in the TMT sector. He was also responsible for performance management and corporate planning of subsidiaries in the fertilizer, petrochemical, energy and consumer sectors.
Moiz has cleared all 3 levels of the CFA professional qualification, and holds a BSc. in Accounting and Finance from LUMS.
Zain Umar joined Baltoro as a senior financial analyst, and has been evaluating investments in the construction material, agri-inputs, fashion retail and asset management space. Prior to joining Baltoro, he spent one year as a business analyst at Engro Powergen Qadirpur Ltd.
As part of the Finance & Planning team, he looked after project investment appraisals, risk assessments and economic & policy research. He was responsible for devising currency risk management protocols and loan restructuring for one of Engro’s international power sector subsidiaries. He also worked on performance tracking, corporate planning and developing control mechanisms for the company.
Zain holds an MBA from LUMS, where he received a gold medal in the Investments course, and a BA in Economics & Philosophy from University College London.
Mustafa has joined Baltoro as an analyst and has been evaluating investments in food, banking, healthcare, education, and the logistics space. Prior to joining Baltoro, he was with United Bank Limited and worked across different domains as part of their management trainee program.
As part of the investment banking department, he worked on the sell side for a local food retailer and worked on privatization mandates of electricity distribution companies. During his time in the Risk Management department, he was actively involved in monitoring the bank’s corporate asset portfolio for the northern region worth USD 2.25 billion. As a risk analyst, he looked after in-depth financial statement analysis, industry analysis, value chain analysis, sponsors’ profile analysis to ensure prudent lending to corporate clients.
Mustafa has cleared all 3 levels of the CFA professional qualification, and holds a BBA degree in Finance from IBA Karachi.
